Obama Vetoes ACA Repeal Bill

FG_AUTHORS: MedPage Today

WASHINGTON -- As promised, President Obama has vetoed legislation that would have overturned the Affordable Care Act.

The House of Representatives had passed the bill in a largely party-line vote on Wednesday, following earlier Senate passage, despite Obama's previous vow to veto it.

Democrats hold enough seats in both houses to prevent an override, if they follow previous voting patterns in support of Obama.

In a message to the House explaining his veto, Obama said the repeal "would reverse the significant progress we have made in improving health care in America," adding that the law "is working."

He also called on Congress to stop "re-fighting old political battles" and to work instead toward economic growth and security for middle-class families.
